Why … is Dunstan … riding a bike naked?

It was all in the name of raising money for kids cancer research and having a good laugh at the same time! The first ever Sydney Body Art Ride was held last Sunday. It was a simple concept – you rock up, chose your colour, strip off, get painted up and then ride as part of a ‘human rainbow’. Many of my friends expressed an interest in the early stages of planning but when it came down to it, ‘Dangerous’ Dave Tickler was the only one brave enough to join me on this adventure!
That said, there was a sterling effort from my non-participant friends on the previous night where a quick whip around raised $305, including $100 from Richard at Café Niki up on Bourke Street. Did I tell you how great they are?

Dave and myself selected ‘sky blue’ and ended up looking like Smurfs, although not the innocent sort that appear in children’s books!!! The ride started at Randwick Racecourse and meandered its way down to the beach in Maroubra where everyone had a body surf and scrubbed ourselves back to a flesh colour. Reaction from the public was generally really positive, especially once the people on the route realised we were raising money for charity! I’m still finding bits of blue in strange places but it was a fantastic experience – kind of like running the City to Surf dressed as Santa, only a bit different!
